New Turf Field Opens at Spectrum Community School

ý School District is celebrating the opening of the new all-weather turf field at Spectrum Community School! The turf has already been in use by students and the community during the first week the 2026-2027 school year.

The opening of the turf field concludes phase one of the project and phase two is already underway to enhance the facility with further amenities and upgrades including team shelters and benches, a score clock, and surrounding landscape.

A sincere thank you to the many students, staff, families, and community members who generously contributed to making this project possible. We are especially grateful to those who provided financial or in-kind support, including Ralmax, Iconix, Infrastructura, McElhanney, Scansa Construction, Stantec, Bartlett, District of Saanich, Peninsula Co-op, Urban Rec, Johnsonville Meats, and Power to Give.

“It’s so fulfilling to see students and community teams using the turf for the first time this week. So much work and planning have gone into visioning and fundraising for this new facility. It has been a long time coming, but well worth the wait,” says Dom Butcher, Spectrum Community School teacher, coach, and former athletic director.

We would also like to recognize the turf project’s committee members (including Dom Butcher) and the many community partners who have supported this project and helped make the turf a reality, including the Esquimalt Nation, Songhees Nation, Victoria Spartans Football Club, Westcastle International Academy, Gorge Soccer, Saanich Fusion, Vancouver Island Soccer League, and Victoria Sport and Social Club. Their partnership and support have been instrumental throughout this journey.

“This is an exciting milestone for Spectrum Community School. We look forward to hosting games and tournaments this fall and inviting students, sports teams, and community partners to enjoying the new field!” says Aaron Norris, Principal of Spectrum Community School.
